DHA and LDL Cholesterol

Will DHA raise risk from LDL cholesterol?

Answer: that depends on your triglyceride level and how much DHA you take daily.

Do you fall into these two categories?

  1. Your triglycerides are very high (above 500)
  2. You are taking a DHA-only or high-DHA supplement?

If you said yes to both, then your LDL cholesterol may go up.*

DHA appears to increase LDL, but only in people whose triglycerides are dangerously high (above 500). *

If your triglycerides are less than 500, then there is no evidence that DHA will increase LDL.*

OmegaVia is not a DHA-only supplement. OmegaVia is a high-EPA formula.

EPA Omega-3 will neither increase nor decrease LDL cholesterol.*

Caution:

If your triglycerides are more than 500, please talk to your doctor.

In addition to getting medical care, you may need to address your diet right away by dramatically cutting down your sugar, refined starch and flour consumption. Please talk to a nutritionist or dietitian to tailor your diet.

You will also need to start an exercise plan.
